Evolution is said by many to be a fact, “It’s proven”, promoters say.
Would you ever think the heart and the words inside it, came onto the beach by way of natural causes?
I’d like us to do a thought experiment. Suppose you are out at a beach and there you come across a large heart with the words, “I Love You” written in the heart. Would you ever think that this heart and the words came about by natural causes? Would the wind do this? How about waves?
What do we observe about this that makes us think it was not naturally caused? Well, the lines of the heart are in a recognizable shape. A heart. They are not some random lines that waves might leave behind. What else do we observe? We see words in the heart. There are three words in the English language and 8 letters. There are two letters that occur twice. This is the level–statistics.
What about the arrangement of the letters? Does it matter how the letters are arranged? Yes, of course! What about the arrangement of the words? Does it matter how the words are arranged? Yes again. What if the words were “I You love” Does that matter? It’s not good syntax. It should be subject, verb, object not subject, object, verb. Yes, the arrangement of words affects the message. This is the level–syntax.
Is there more here? Is there a message? Did this heart and the letters come about randomly? No. How do we know this was not random? There is a clear message that we understand. This is the level–semantics.
Is there more? There is action involved. “I love you” elicits emotion. This is the level–application.
Is there more? Yes, there is purpose in this message. It is to convey a caring message, warmth, affection. This is the level–purpose.
Information scientist Dr. Warner Gitt, wrote the book, In the Beginning Was Information. Gitt’s message is that wherever we find information it is in five levels. 1. statistics, 2. syntax, 3. semantics, 4. application, 5. purpose. As described above the “I love you” message has all five levels. And so does the DNA that is in every plant, animal, fish and human have information in all five levels! The DNA code is a code and it is not simple. It is complex and only intelligence can create it, just like writing a paper or a blog takes intelligence so does DNA. Only it takes super extraordinary intelligence–beyond imagination level of intelligence!
Now we begin to see the power of information! Would these words “I love you” and that shape form by natural causes? NO! Of course not. How much less likely is it that the information needed in DNA form the first life? It could not. That is utterly crazy. It is not possible in any amount of time. Now, suppose life did somehow get started on its own. There would need to be volumes of novel information required to create all the microscopic creatures, fish, plants, insects, birds, animals as well as, you and I.
Let Dr. Richard Dawkins give us an idea of the volume of storage capacity in various life forms. In his book, The Blind Watchmaker, page 116 Dawkins writes, “There is enough storage capacity in the DNA of a single lily seed or a single salamander sperm to store the Encyclopedia Britannica 60 times over. Some species of the unjustly called ‘primitive’ amoebas have as much information in the DNA as 1,000 Encyclopedia Britannica’s.” Now for human cells it is not as much storage space. Dawkins writes, “As I mentioned at the end of Chapter 1, there is enough information capacity in a single human cell to store the Encyclopedia Britannica, all 30 volumes of it, three or four times over.” Dawkins is saying the DNA for these cells has amazing storage capacity. The code needed to run the cell would be less but still, this gives us an idea of the amount of information that needs to get created by natural causes for evolution to be true.
The fact is, information is a massless entity. Information is not made by matter and energy. Stephen C. Meyer wrote in, Darwinism, Design and Public Education “The information contained in an English sentence or computer software does not derive from the chemistry of the ink or the physics of magnetism, but from a source extrinsic to physics and chemistry altogether. Indeed, in both cases, the message transcends the properties of the medium. The information in DNA also transcends the properties of its material medium.” Imagine the many miracles needed to create the thousands (or millions) of lines of code to produce life. The law of biogenesis reminds us that “life only comes from life”. Information can only come by way of intelligence. Sources like you and me, animals and God. These are the only sources that create information. DNA is the most complex form of information known. Bill Gates wrote, “DNA is like a computer program but far, far more advanced than any software ever created.” from Gates book, The Road Ahead. It did not come about by natural causes and natural causes did not produce the ever increasing more complex forms of life all the way up to humans.
Evolution could not happen in any amount of time as I describe above. Information is a powerful empirical source of evidence that EXCLUSIVELY supports creation while at the same time it disproves evolution.
